Kuehne + Nagel has launched a new charter route between Hong Kong International and Budapest airports to better meet the demand for logistics services in the automotive and high-tech industries in Europe, especially in Hungary and Romania.
The charter service will operate weekly and will use a Boeing B747-8F aircraft with a capacity of over 100 tons and after stopping in Budapest, the flight will continue to Liege Airport. The purpose of the new charter route is to provide greater speed and volume for the two industries. Also, the new airfreight route will connect Romania via the Budapest Hub and will provide a reliable line-haul connection and last-mile delivery to the Romanian market, allowing for better visibility and control of shipments.
László Szabó, manager of the air logistics department of Kuehne + Nagel Hungary, said that lithium batteries will be one of the essential products for these industries and will be transported by the new service. This makes the new charter route more accessible to Kuehne+Nagel's expertise in the logistics and transportation of lithium batteries offered through the KN BatteryChain service.
"Despite the current challenges in the global supply chain and in the logistics market, Budapest Airport sees excellent development potential for this new service. An example of development is the booming electric vehicle industry in the Hungarian capital. The recent investment in electric vehicles, car parts and battery production in Hungary will have a gradual effect on the growth of air cargo to Budapest ”, said József Kossuth, manager of the Budapest Airport cargo department.
